A comparative study of the form and role of Seljuk and Ilkhani Lustre pottery with examples from the later period (Safawi and Qajar).

Abstract

Lustre pottery is one of the relatively less known types of the Safavid and Qajar eras. According to the dated examples, the sixth and seventh centuries AH. AD is the heyday of the production of these dishes, which has been greatly expanded along with the Seljuk, Khwarezmshah and Ilkhanid dynasties. Archaeological findings confirm that, despite the period after the Mongol invasion, the production of this type of pottery became popular again during the Safavid and Qajar eras in Iran. Thus, although the pottery art of Seljuq, Khawarizmshahi and Ilkhani eras has left a lot of influence on the pottery industry of the era after it, but they have differences in the form and decoration of Lustre products, which needs research and investigation. The method of conducting this research is descriptive-analytical, and the method of gathering information is based on library sources and referring to the websites of foreign museums. The results of this research show that during the late centuries of the Islamic era, while maintaining the continuity of the pottery traditions of the middle centuries, they have achieved innovations in the field of form and decoration of Lustre vessels, which features They show specific to the Safavid and Qajar periods.
