Fire, due to its diverse characteristics and functions, has played a very wide role in mythologies, beliefs, and rituals of worship. In a way, it has been given a special place by poets and artists. Its beautiful and magnificent flames have long been a reminder of the divine light. In mystical literature, both the positive and negative aspects of fire have been considered. Fire and the flames arising from it indicate various concepts in the art of painting during the Islamic era. By studying the surviving copies from different periods of painting during the Islamic era, it is possible to determine the reflection of its manifestations in this art. In this article, the representation of this concept in the past is addressed and the interests of artists from different painting schools during the Islamic era in the thematic treatment of fire are explored. The present study is a descriptive-analytical research and its data were collected through the study of library resources and reference to documents. According to the findings of the research, it can be said that in Islamic painting, fire has taken on various meanings and its multipolarity has been emphasized, and it has been used mostly in symbolic and allegorical forms.
